The Best and Worst Movies of 2004: #3

The top three and bottom three movies are very divided from all the other films produced this past year. The bottom three are of very little calibur compared to #4 and #5, and the top three are far above the rest in many ways. The top three were especially difficult to choose between, and are almost a tie.

Van Helsing



Synopsis
An acclaimed monster killer aims his sights on Dracula. He runs into a chesty woman, who is there for her boobs.

Why I Chose It
Because it's about an acclaimed monster killer who aims his sights on Dracula, and the chesty woman who is there for her boobs. This movie lacked plot, imagination, and a storyline that wasn't basic and boring. The acting was awful, the special effects were pre-1990, and I wasted over ten bucks to see it. Although it may have been set-up as a movie that was supposed to be cheesy for effect, the amount of cheese surpassed any cheese factory or mouse storage, and it is off the charts in the wrong direction.

That's even funnier than Spidey 2.


Best Movies of 2004: #3

The Village



Synopsis
Set more than 100 years ago, a small communinty is tormented by the creatures from the forest that in the past have not harmed or bothered them. In the process of warding off the monsters, it is discovered that there are secrets everywhere within the village.

Why I Chose It
The Village was a remarkable film that cannot be matched in this genre. Although it is frightening, it goes to a deeper level and challenges many different issues, including gender roles, blindness, strength of an individual, among many others. The script is one of the best in years, and the acting is incredible, specifically Bryce Dallas Howard, the daughter of Ron Howard; this is her first feature length film in a leading role and she delivers the performance of a lifetime.
