Work Ethic

(or lack there of)

So I've been working full time in an office for almost two weeks now. I have come to the realization that people just don't care about the quality of work they do, as long as they get a paycheque. I have found myself doing a hell of a lot of work compared to those around me in the office that have worked there several years, which I believe is unfair. While I am working hard, normally I can find at least one person staring at their nails, or at the computer, or at the wall, or at air. It's sad.

I've also discovered that people are chicken-shit. In the last two weeks, I have been taught to process orders, update orders, etc. in the invoicing department. I have been taught incorrectly a minimum of four times, where I get in trouble for doing something incorrectly, and the teacher then denies showing me that method. I mean, if you make a mistake in teaching me, then admit it! Who really cares? Say OOPS! It's a perfectly good word! OOPS! OOPS!

Anyways that's my rant. Thankfully there's a Garfield movie being released shortly and I can become one of the slovenly loathesome public, working to a max of 10%. You go, Canada!

Movie Review: Shrek 2

One of the funniest movies I've ever seen, even moreso than Shrek, is Shrek 2. An all-star cast and amazing special effects back up this film's amazing and hilarious script.

Synopsis

Shrek and Fiona (Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz) come back from their honeymoon to find that Fiona's parents (John Cleese and Julie Andrews) would like to congratulate her on her recent marriage. But when they arrive in the kingdom of Far, Far Away, with their loyal sidekick Donkey (Eddie Murphy), the shock of their daughter and son-in-law being ogres changes their concept of 'happily ever after'. King Harold must now hire the help of the famed ogre killer Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas), and call upon the fairy godmother (Jennifer Saunders) and her son Prince Charming (Rupert Everett).

Which Characters I Enjoyed

ALL OF THEM.

The cast in this movie is phenomenal, therefore I will simply talk about the few which made this movie spectacular.

Antonio Banderas was the best character in this film. It was nice to see the old faces back, however Puss in Boots, a confident fighter who needs to watch out for hairballs, is hilarious, and completely makes this film.

Eddie Murphy as Donkey, is a riot, as in the first Shrek. Everything out of his mouth, as a donkey or as a "sexy" stallion, is even remotely funny, and the movie would not be the same without him.

Jennifer Saunders, as the fairy godmother, plays one of the most convincing villains I have seen in an animated feature in a long time. Not to mention she has a killer singing voice.

Other Things I Loved

The soundtrack for this film is amazing. Counting Crows, Funkytown, Dashboard Confessional, and two remakes of Bonnie Tyler's 'Holding Out for a Hero' make this album a must buy, or at least must burn. The lack of big names may deter some from giving it a try, but the Shrek 2 Sountrack is amazing. Trust me.

Overall

The movie was hilarious. The cast was more than all-star. The plot was great. The movie was a little short.

Movie Review: Troy

I had the pleasure of seeing Troy over the past weekend, and I have to say it was one of the best movies I had seen in a long, long time.

Synopsis

The general idea of the movie is Helen (Diane Kruger), queen of Sparta, goes to Troy with its prince, Paris (Orlando Bloom). This causes Greece to take Sparta and attack Troy. Achilles (Brad Pitt), is the unbeatable hero of the Greek army, who fights for Greece to enfuse his name in history, but he follows his heart, and is not always at the beckon-call of Agamemnon, the king of Greece. Paris' brother Hector (Eric Bana) is the indisputable hero of Troy, and the star of the Trojan army. When Greece attacks, all hopes lie with Hector, the Trojan army, and the massive walls which have never been breached.

The main reason I enjoyed Troy was the fact that it was not all fighting, as many epics are. A love story blossoms between Achilles and Briseis (Rose Byrne), which takes the attention away from the raging war. The story of the two Trojan brothers, their women, and their relationship with their father, King Priam (Peter O'Toole).

Which Characters I Enjoyed

Brad Pitt delivers one of his most powerful performances to date, proving the arrogance and intelligence Achilles truly possessed. I wasn't sure whether or not Pitt could handle such a forecful role, but he proved he could and make it his own.

Eric Bana was also very convincing. He proved Hector to be a hero to question what is "right", such as relying on the sun god for all motivation, and man should rely on their own hearts to define their choices in life. A great performance by a great actor.

Rose Byrne, playing Achilles' love interest Briseis, was possibly one of the best actors of the entire cast. Being a captive of the Greek army on the beaches of Troy, Briseis is given to Achilles as a prize. When he learns she is not just a peasant girl, and that she is not going to simply give in to brute force, his respect for her increases, which leads to a blossoming romance. Byrne's performance is Oscar-worthy, and should not be overlooked.

Peter O'Toole, who played the elderly king of Troy, is the other Oscar-worthy actor in this film. He plays the wise and noble king Priam, who's experience and wisdom show through. I cannot imagine a better choice for this role.

Which Characters Stank Like Poo

Orlando Bloom, an actor I enjoyed in Pirates of the Caribbean and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, gave his worst performance to date, as far as I have seen. He plays a sappy prince Paris, which is the character, but the overall performance is boring and lacks character.

Diane Kruger who plays the beautiful Helen of Troy, also seemed to lack personality.

Overall

The movie as a whole was a remarkable experience, and despite the lack of quality in a few characters, the others more than make up for it. It is a must see in theatres, as on a smaller screen would not give it the appreciation it deserves, although I will buy it on DVD. :)

Saturday: The Fastest Day of the Week

Has anyone ever noticed that you look forward to Saturday the entire week, and when it comes, it seems as though there's a gap in the space-time continuum that makes a normal 24 hour day go by in like 12. IN-SANE! It was a good day, however. Went to the mall with Athena, watched a crazy Cirque du Soleil show, and saw Troy (which I'll do a seperate post about). Tomorrow not sure what I'm doing.. sleeping lol.

Anyways not the most interesting post, just enjoying the weekend as it whizzes by in a confusing blur. Hopefully tomorrow will slow down and give me time to play with Sheba.

My baby Sheba

Coming soon to Jam's Blog: Movie reviews.
On my to-do list: Get 12 hours of sleep.

Survive

Well, a long day has come to an end.

Started my new job today, and enjoyed it (to an extent). I basically do all the lackie work, which is to be expected. However, I have a feeling I could be doing a more efficient job if they taught me in a more orderly fashion. I was bouncing all over the office, doing lots of different things, whereas I think it would have benefited me more to be taught the specifics of my job in order, instead of doing tiny bits of things which I don't understand on their own. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I also watched the Survivor All-Stars second million giveaway. Although I voted for the conniving Shii-Ann, she was not even in the final four, being Colby, Rob, Big Tom, and Rupert. In the end, Rupert won, as I had predicted, because of his honest personality and fun-loving boyish charm, in the body of a large man (lol). I suppose I have no objection, but I would have still liked to see someone else win. I guess Steve's favourite player finally did win something!

Shii Ann Huang may have fiercly fought her way past many competitors in Survivor All-Stars, but she didn't stand a chance against Mr. Popularity, Rupert Boneham, in the million dollar giveaway decided by the voting public.

Well it's 10pm and I'm absolutely exhausted. Time to turn in!

On my to do list: Sleep, get drunk this weekend at some point, see Troy.

The Ups and The Downs

So I had an interesting day :)

UPS: First of all, I got the job I was applying for! It's about time some luck like that came my way. Although I would say luck played no part and I earned it all, I'm just happy I finally have a summer job and I can stop fretting. I then spent a day with a friend from highschool and we had a blast and I bought clothes and ate at a fun restaurant, and noted nostalgic phrases and walked down memory lane, GOOD TIMES (eh Meek?)!

DOWNS: I lost $1.50 at the casino! What's up with that? I always break even. Ah well. Ya win some ya lose some.

After the casino, I proceeded to go home and chat online like I do. However, I was chatting with a rather ignorant S.O.B. who decided to rant about how all "faggots" were bad and how he can't deal with it, bla bla bla. Now, I don't know who doesn't know I'm gay, but hey even if someone didn't know, that kind of opinion makes me furious. It's unfounded and ridiculous, like racism. You don't hear racist comments anymore, for fear of being ostracized or persecuted, so why is there still discriminitive comments towards sexuality? Just grow up!

So that's my rant, hope ya liked it!

...YAY I GOT A JOB LOL

On my to do list: Call Athena (cause I miss her like crazy), buy snacks.

Crazy-Ass Dream

So I wake up this morning, thinking wow.. that was weird.

I dreamt about this competition I was having with someone (don't remember who), where we had these hammers and the first one to hit the cardboard wins.. because they broke the cardboard or something lol. So we had these courses, almost like treasure hunts, to find this cardboard and smash it with our hammers. (lol oh god I sound insane)

So one of the courses is in this coffee shop and I'm ahead of my opponent because I found a clue on the floor under a table which said "sggeelir" which of course made sense in my dream as "rile eggs" which was a cue for me to ask the lady behind the counter, who is like a mysterious crazy old polish woman, for eggs (funny how I'm smarter in my dream than in real life, cause I would have never thought of that). So she gives me two mugs on a platter, and I'm supposed to drink the one with the eggs whites in it, not the yolks, but I can't tell which one is which because she sprinkled nuts on top!.. then I woke up.

So yeah, insane...
